Celebrating Failure
During this semester I really messed up, I accidentally hit my boyfriends car with my car. And if you know me I love cars, I hate to see any of them rust or have dents, it hurts my soul. We just got into the new house a few days ago, and set up a ping pong table in the garage. Once we were done, we wanted to roll it out of the way so we could park inside, of course, so I needed to roll forward some to have the space to roll the ping pong table to the correct side. Unfortunately, when I was rolling out, Kyle had opened his door, but I rolled out when it was closed. Any who I creased his door, and I had to buy a completely new bumper! Everything is fixed and looks better than before, but I had never felt like such an idiot and a failure in my head. I was in shock for a few hours, I never thought I would damage our cars even if I didn't intentionally mean to, it threw me for a loop.
What I learned from this, is that Kyle really knows how to calm me down, when I'm panicking, but that paying attention to everything in a car is extremely important, because the bill for both cars was roughly 5,000 dollars. Im usually on my toes when it comes to driving because our cars our like our kids, we love them, but this really set it in place to stop before doing anything and think about what can happen. But it also taught me that our cars, are just cars, materials, metal and plastic, it can be replaced. However if I hurt Kyle or myself, that can't be replaced and can deal even more damage than just dollars to fix the cars. Materials aren't everything, but do treat them with care, because they take you where you need to be.
Failure hurts your pride and spirit, most people can't accept what they didn't accomplish. However, failure sets you on your path to success or new knowledge. Without it, humans probably wouldn't be where we are today. When this accident occurred I legit cried for three hours, I couldn't believe what I had done, but now I realize its just a car, and when I had gotten to that conclusion I found the best collision repair and fixed her up. It hurt for awhile but in the end I found the solution and moved on. During this class, and reading about risks and failure brought new light to me, and I'm willingly to jump onto a new path with no direction to have new experiences and take the knowledge to grow as a person and maybe grow a new company.
You were really descriptive with the scene that unfolded when you failed. And, as the reader, I could hear the hurt and regret in your writing. It also seemed like you took a lot of important stuff away from this event, meaningful lessons. I loved your very last note on failure, the bad and the good that failure has on us.
ReplyDeleteI love how you put us in the situation and described what happened to the car in detail; it really helped me gain a sense of how it all went down. I am sorry about what happened, but it was good that you saw a different side of Kyle as he calmed you down about the situation. Your comment about failure harming pride is something so important for humans and is a lesson that should be learned. Good job!
